US U-17 ’90 MNT Down SYL ODP National Camp Selects Over Weekend SYL ODP National Camp Select Players Scouted By US National Team Staff
The U.S. Under-17 ’90 Men’s National Team broke into two squads during this past weekend at the Super Y-League ODP National Camp, with both squads picking up victories against two different Super Y-League ODP National Camp Select Teams, made up of a collection of the best players in the camp. In the first match of the day at Cocoa Expo Sports Center, the U-17s were led by Sheanon Williams, who tallied two first half goals, and Bryan Dominguez, who notched goals in each half, for a 5-2 victory over the Super Y-League ODP Selects. Williams scored in the 23rd and 27th minutes and Dominguez buried his first goal in the 33rd minute to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. The Super Y-League ODP Selects came back with two goals in the second half to cut the lead to one, but Dominguez and Brek Shea tallied in the final 10 minutes to pull away for the victory.
“It felt pretty good to score against the National Team, but I knew I was going to get something if I kept pressing,” said Adama Wakai of the Charlotte Soccer Club, after the match on his goal for the Super Y-League ODP Selects. The second match was also paced by a two-goal performance as Jared Jeffrey scored the first and last goals (eighth and 88th minutes) for a 3-1 victory. The Super Y-League ODP Selects were able to pull even after Jeffrey’s first tally with a goal in the 36th minute, but Axel Levry, former SYL ODP Select Team player, scored the game-winner in the 67th on an unassisted strike.
“It’s a great environment to be around great players. You’re playing with the best players, and then to top it off, you’re playing against the National Team,” said Tom Serratore, U13 SYL ODP National Camp player.
