Week Six Highlight
USL News Release

May 25, 2006

Mid Atlantic
“In the middle of last week we took five teams to Brooklyn,” said Ironbound SC Director of Operations Joe Salgado.  “Game procedures went well and everyone played hard and had a great week of soccer.”

Ironbound came won their series with the Brooklyn Knights with a 3-2 record.  One of the more competitive games of the series came in the form of a 3-1 loss to the Knights in the U15 boys’ division.

“The game was even early and coming away from half time we were tied at 1-1,” said Salgado, who doubles as Ironbound’s U15 Manager.  “Their keeper made two outstanding saves in the second half.  I felt it could have gone either way but in the end they beat us with the counterattack.”

“All our clubs have at least one Super Y-League game under our belts now,” added Salgado.  “We’ve started off well as a club. The coaches are all excited about their teams and we’re looking forward to a great season.”

Northwest
In five years of Super-Y League action the Reds have learned and adapted every season.  The added competition from Yakima is beginning to make itself known with the perennial northwest powers such as the Spokane Shadow and the Washington Crossfire.

“In the past the competition has been ahead of us but in recent years we’ve closed the gap,” said Yakima General Manager Teresa Vega.  “I’m happy with the talent we have in our club system.  We’ve grown as a club through the competition of Super-Y and the results are beginning to come.”

Over the weekend the Reds finished a four game set over the weekend in Spokane with a record of 0-2-2, drawing both the U13 and U14 girls matches at two goals apiece.

”It was a good result for traveling to Spokane,” said Vega.  “It’s a tough series to win.  The Shadow are a strong side.  We normally get a better result when we play at home so we’re excited to see the outcome of this rematch.”
