Letters From Switzerland: Part I Super Y-League Select '91 Team meets Liverpool
The USL Super Y-League 1991 Select Team arrived today in Zurich, Switzerland in preparation for the International Swiss U16 Cup. The prestigious European tournament features the Super Y-League National Select Team, Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund, Liechtenstein National Team, FC St. Gallen, Chelsea, FC Basel, VFB Stuttgart, and FC Anderlicht. Jim Sidick, Team Manager, will be keeping a daily journal of the teams training, matches, and events on the tour.
Day 1, July 26
We arrived in Zurich after an easy exit from the USA last night. It took about an hour or so drive towards Bad Ragaz. I was quite surprised to see the temperatures close to 90 degrees today with very little breeze, since we are surrounded by the Swiss mountains. The remainder of the day consisted of getting settled in the hotel, meeting with the event staff, and going trough town. We started off the European flavor with visiting Liverpool’s training session, since they are doing their pre-season in town. The players were able to meet with the Liverpool players, talk to head coach, Rafael Benitez, get a few pictures, and some autographs. Tomorrow will be the first day of training for the team. The town is getting prepared for the many spectators and matches.
