First CSL Team Joins NAF
Glendora FC U13 girls qualify from Southern California
Thursday, November 1

GLENDORA, CA – The Coast Soccer League/Southern California Division of the Super Y-League has qualified their first group of teams for the North American Finals, running Friday, November 16 through Tuesday, November, 20 in Tampa, Florida. To date, the Southern Californian girls representatives include: U13 Glendora FC, U15 So Cal Blues, U16 Eagles and U17 Wolfpack Blue. The boys Southern California representatives include: U15 Arsenal and U16 Real So Cal.

“This team is strong,” said Glendora FC U13 girls Manager Ron Curley. “Playing four to five seasons as a year-round club has paid off for these girls. The size and strength advantages our girls have are evident, but they are just getting into the tactical game. We allowed the least amount of goals in ten games in CSL play this season, with one game to go. On offense, I have seen amazing skills from this group during an attack.”

Glendora FC will be placed in Group C of the U13 girls division at the North American Finals. There, they will face the top team from the Midwest Division in the 9-1-0 Cleveland Internationals, the undefeated New Jersey Stallions (11-0-2) from the Mid Atlantic Division and 10-1-2 Atlanta Silverbacks out of the South Atlantic. All teams Glendora FC has never faced.

“We never faced teams from the East,” said Curley. “We have traveled to Arizona, Las Vegas and Nevada for competition and we have faced teams from Texas, Idaho and Colorado but that’s it, let the East Coast teams know, we are coming to play some soccer.”

Glendora’s CSL/SYL Southern California schedule, historically one of the toughest places to play competitive youth soccer in the United States, has prepared the side to face the best competition the Super Y-League has to offer.

“Playing Gold Bracket soccer in CSL speaks for itself,” said Curley. “This is the highest level of soccer available to these girls. Week in and week out they are facing the best of the best. Our goal at the beginning of this year was to finish in the top half of the bracket to avoid relegation but as the weeks passed, the girls seemed to pull off some great finishes. It is an honor for our girls to be able to represent Southern California at the North American Finals.”

The 2006 North American Finals marked the first time that the Southern California region of the country was represented in the Super Y-League finals. Their impact was immediate. Southern California won the U13, U15 and U17 girls’ championships and appeared in the U16 girls and U15 and U16 boys’ finals.

“The perception of the Super Y-League and the North American Finals is huge in Southern California to say the least,” said Curley. “Like I said before, it will be an honor for these girls to represent Southern California. They will play their hearts out, you can count on it.”
