U15 All-League Teams Announced 32 players earn top honors at the U15 boys and girls North American Finals
Wednesday, December 5
TAMPA – United Soccer Leagues announced today the All-League teams for the U15 girls and boys who took part in the ninth annual Super Y-League North American Finals held last month. Selections were based off the nominations of opposing coaches made throughout tournament play. Selections per position were altered to include the players receiving the most nominations. All players selected to the list are automatically eligible to attend the Super Y-League ODP National Camps beginning Thursday, January 10 in Cocoa, Florida.
The Cleveland Internationals, who claimed three girls titles at the Super Y-League North American Finals (U13, U15, U16) accounted for three of the 16 available positions on the U15 girls All-League team. Their goalkeeper, Kelly King, was awarded a position on the team based on her five shutout performance at the North American Finals. King and her defense, which included U15 girls MVP Juliana Libertin, allowed zero goals in five days of stern competition. The Internationals third selection was striker Alana Smith. Smith started all five matches for Cleveland, picking up four goals in the process. Two of her four goals came in the final against a previously undefeated BW Rhode Island side.
BW Rhode Island received two nominations on the All-League team in midfielder Michelle Laramee and defender Kayla Sedgley. Those two are joined by the West Michigan Fire’s combo of shutdown defender Shelby Humphries and creative attacking midfielder Megan Putnam. The So Cal Blues of Southern California earned two spots on the team by way of forwards Jennifer Barrientos and Carly Rivera.
U15 Boys Final In a match-up of two clubs who have seen girls teams capture titles in the past year, Arsenal U13 at 2006 SYL Finals and Parsippany SC Super-20 in August, the pair survived a hotly competitive bracket that did not see any teams sweep their groups with a 3-0-0 record and saw the unbeaten SCC Breakers go 1-1-1.
Parsippany went 2-0-1 in their group, giving up just one goal, and advanced to the championship with a 4-2 victory over the defending U14 champion Chicago Magic in the semifinals. On the other side, Arsenal were unscored upon in their group while going 2-0-1 before posting a 4-2 victory over the Kalamazoo Kingdom in the semifinals.
With two defensively strong teams in the final, it was no surprise that the game was a tight affair. Anthony Rodriguez would go on to score the game-winner in the second half to give the club two titles on the day and their third in two years. Adrian Garcia would post the shutout in goal.
