DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire men's soccer head coach Rob Thompson has announced that Gregory Brown (Salem, N.H.) has committed to play for the Wildcats this spring.

“I am very familiar with Greg and am excited he has chosen to continue his career at UNH,” said Coach Thompson.

Brown graduated from Salem High School where he played four years of varsity soccer. While playing for the Blue Devils, he was selected as an all-state honorable mention his sophomore year and was named to the all-state first team the next season. Brown led his team in scoring his senior campaign and was named to the all-state second team. He was selected as the team’s MVP for his efforts in both his junior and senior seasons.

The 6-foot midfielder also played under Coach Thompson at Seacoast United Soccer Club (SUSC). He was part of the SUSC team that represented New England at the 2006 Super Y League National Championships in Tampa, Florida. Brown scored two goals in the tournament and SUSC advanced to the under-17 national final where they lost in penalty kicks to finish as national runner-up.

“Greg is versatile and will fit in nicely in a few positions,” added Thompson “He is smart, composed, and will have the advantage of training and playing with us this spring before he begins his first fall campaign.”

The men’s soccer team finished their 2007 campaign with a 5-5-9 overall record and 2-2-5 in the America East conference, advancing to the America East semi-finals for the second consecutive year.
