‘92-‘94 Boys’ SYL ODP Camps Liftoff 300+ players file into fourth and final SYL ODP Camp
Thursday, February 7
COCOA, FLORIDA – United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League ODP National Camps for their ’92-’94 boys began today at the Cocoa Expo Center in Cocoa, Florida. The four day selection process for elite Super Y-League players ages U13-U15 concludes Sunday afternoon with the naming of the ’92 & ‘93/’94 Super Y-League Select Teams for the 2008 season. This is the fourth and final SYL ODP Camp for the 2008 season.
U.S. National Team Staff Coaches will be on site throughout the weekend to incorporate their evaluations with those of the Super Y-League ODP Coaching Staff.
“This is not a camp like the others that you have been to,” said Super Y-League ODP Technical Director John Hannan during the camp’s opening ceremonies. “I have been to a lot of camps and I believe this one is the best. It remains the best because it is about what is best for the players.”
“This is an environment where you will be challenged,” continued Hannan. “You know you are good in your area. After this camp you will understand exactly how you match up against the best players on the national level.”
Elite-level players named to the ’92 or the ‘93/’94 SYL Select Teams gain the possibility of joining United Soccer Leagues’ newest initiative with English Premier League side West Ham United. On a player-to-player basis, the most talented athletes at the camp will be selected to join the West Ham Academy for a ten day undertaking with the storied youth academy in London. An inventive element for USL in 2008, this venture furthers the ongoing mission of developing an international platform for foreign clubs to connect with the North American game and to provide the best opportunities for USL players with professional aspirations.
Selected players will begin training with West Ham United on Friday, March 28. The ten field players and two goalkeepers will travel to London for the intense training and experience. During their ten day venture, players will train within their corresponding West Ham Academy age group and attend English Premier League matches.
