'92-'94 SYL ODP National Camps
Day Three: Two SYL Select Team matches, SYL Select Team named tomorrow
Saturday, February 9

COCOA, FLORIDA – The last full day of United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League ODP National Camps for their ’92-‘94 boys saw the teams battle through four 35-minute matches here at the Cocoa Expo Center in Eastern Florida. Following the two morning games, coaches convened to select two teams for both age groups that will compete in this evening’s SYL Select Team matches. The ‘93/’94 match will begin at 7:30 PM, followed by the ‘92 boys at 8:00 PM.

“The level of play at this camp is very good,” said Felician College Assistant Coach Lee Pollard. “The boys are all trying to play good soccer. They are not forcing a lot of things. They combine well with each other on the field but they are also not afraid to improvise if the situation calls for something special.”

Pollard served as a head coach on both the ’92-’94 girls and ’92-’94 boys the past two weeks.

“I believe in the Super Y-League program,” said Pollard. “It is a great scouting tool for college coaches and it always has that chance of uncovering a ‘diamond in the rough’ type player for the U.S. National Team. It allows kids that are the best in their area to see where they match up against the best in the country. It is always great to bring together players that have this high a level of passion and ability.”

In addition to his collegiate responsibilities, Pollard serves as the Assistant Technical Director with Jersey United.

“Jersey United trains the Super Y-League players at Princeton SC,” said Pollard. “It is a rising club that develops players on the grassroots level. The club is very good at preparing players for the next level, whether that is a college or professional career depends on the player.”

“I joined Jersey United to help them get to the next level,” added Pollard. “In the future the club is looking to get a senior team, perhaps in USL’s Premier Development League level.”

The boys will begin their last match with their teams tomorrow at 8:30 AM. Players selected to the final select game are scheduled to play at 11:00 AM. In that final game, the top 30 boys in each age division (’92 & ’93/’94) will be chiseled down to the definitive Super Y-League Select Team for the 2008 season.

About the ODP National Camps
