Sunrise SC to build on 2007 success First-year club sent three teams to their inaugural North American Finals
Monday, April 14
SUNRISE, FL – Its first season of USL Super Y-League soccer in the books, Sunrise SC is looking to improve on the excellent standards established in 2007. Last season the club sent three teams to the Super Y-League North American Finals in Tampa, FL. Sunrise also sent 14 players to the SYL ODP National Camps in Cocoa, FL earlier this year. Thanks to the hard work and natural talent of Giovanni Freitas and Fabian Bastiads, Sunrise SC emerged as the only Super Y-League club in North America to have two players selected to participate in USL’s West Ham Academy Tour in London, England.
As a result, Sunrise SC Director of Coaching, Gustavo Camacho, is very excited about the club’s sophomore season in Super Y-League. Sunrise will field eight teams – four boys and four girls, ranging from U13 to U17. Despite the fact that Sunrise is one of the smallest Super Y-League clubs in Florida, the results from our players are second to none.
“We set the bar very high in practice,” said Camacho. “Our players accept the challenge every day. They have accomplished every goal we have set for them.”
In lieu of last season’s success, and to continue in the right direction, Sunrise SC welcomes former Argentinean National Team Player Pedro Magallenes, to its Super Y-League family. Pedro will lead Sunrise’s U15 boys, and will also work with the various other age groups playing under the Sunrise SC banner throughout the summer.
Pedro’s expertise and international soccer experience will assist Sunrise SC in raising the standards even higher for 2008. His U15 boy’s team is expected to be among best in the league’s Southeast Division this season.
The ultimate goal of Sunrise SC in 2008 is to have more teams at the Super Y-League North American Finals than any other Southeastern Division Club. With great clubs like Schulz Academy, Kendall SC, Weston SC and RSL Florida competing in the division, Sunrise will have its work cut out for them. However, Sunrise SC has assembled some of the greatest players and trainers in South Florida and is well positioned to again, accomplish each and every goal set in front of them.
