Joel Malouf of Vernon scored twice as the Bank of Montreal Under-16 Boys Thompson-Okanagan Super Y Soccer League regional team opened its season with a 2–2 tie against Red Deer in exhibition play Sunday in Summerland. Alan Recht, an international student from Mexico living in Vernon, assisted on both goals, while Enzo Paal combined with Malouf and Recht to create many quality scoring chances that led to close calls and three hit goal posts.
