PITTSBURGH, PA – Penn’s Forest Football Club will begin its eighth season in United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League on Saturday, June 21 when they host the Fort Wayne Fever Academy at Turner Valley Soccer Complex near Pittsburgh, PA. Forest is coming off a landmark 2007 campaign in which they sent two teams to the SYL North American Finals and 23 individual players to the SYL ODP National camps.

Of those 23, forward Jeff Simmons and defender Nick Kutch were named to the 2008 ‘89/’90 SYL Select Team, an honor bestowed upon the top 2.8% of players in North America’s most competitive youth league. That being said, Forest is anticipating bigger and better things in their 2008 USL campaign.

“The boys have had a great spring and are looking forward to the challenge of the upcoming SYL season,” said Penn’s Forest General Manager Rick Nese, of the club’s U17 boys. “They know the rigors of the season and the quality of the competition they will face. I believe they are prepared.”

Leading the way for Forest’s U17 boys are Cody Partyka and Simmons. They are coming off a successful spring, having earned a spot in the finals of the Jefferson Cup and Baltimore March Madness before finally taking a share of the title at the Classic Hammer Blue Chip Showcase in Cincinnati.

Other teams looking forward to big things in the 2008 campaign are the U15 boys, who won the Super Y-League U14 Midwest Division in 2007 and Forest’s U15 girls who qualified for the 2007 North American Finals.

“Our U13 boys and girls are strong, but you never know what you are going to run into in that age group,” added Nese. “Across the board the club should be as competitive as ever. We are looking to place at least two, maybe three teams in the finals this year.”
