The Fourth in New England
Plenty of SYL action on hand in the Northeast
USL News Release

Thursday, July 3, 2008

It was a busy Fourth of July weekend in the New England Division as the Nordic Soccer Club, the Ottawa Fury and Seacoast United all hosted multiple matches over the holiday weekend.

Nordic Soccer Club
The Nordic Soccer Club has six matches scheduled at the Tree Farm this weekend that will send a lot of holiday excitement through the area. BW Rhode Island is making the trip for all six matchups and Nordic Soccer club is expecting competitive matches. Nordic’s girls U17 will look to get their season back on track as they have lost three out of their first four games this season.

Nordics boys U17 team has been very competitive through their first five games but have yet to notch their first victory. They have only been defeated once, and have tied four games.

Meanwhile the Girls U16, U15, and U14 teams have all stumbled out of the blocks. However, there is still time to turn their seasons around and they will look to do that this weekend against BW Rhode Island. The boys U13 will look for similar success, which they have achieved earlier this year in defeating BW Rhode Island 3-0. The rematch is set for Saturday afternoon.

Ottawa Fury
One team wondering what all the Fourth of July fuss is all about is the Ottawa Fury, who gets their Super Y-League season into full swing this weekend with eight games on the docket.

Ottawa’s U17 boys already have a few games under their belt this season. They will look to continue their strong play when they entertain BW Rhode Island. Ottawa is 3-0-1 on the season and have outscored their opponents by 11 goals.

The Fury’s girls U16 team has just started play this season but already they have made their presence felt in the New England Division. They opened up their season with a dominating 4-0 win and will look to continue their success this weekend. Ottawa’s boys U13 team is also just opening their season and like the girls U16 team, they too got off to an impressive start with a convincing 3-0 victory.

Seacoast United
Seacoast United will be doing more celebrating this weekend than Ottawa or Nordic since they only play a handful of matches this weekend. The club’s U15 girls, who are in fourth place in the standings, will try to stir up some on-the-field celebrations when they kick off against Nordic’s U15’s on Sunday at noon. Nordic’s girls are currently one position behind Seacoast with a record of 1-3-0.

The perennial competitors will lock up again two hours later when their U16 and U17 girls, and their U17 boys begin a series of matches at 2 PM EST.

The best of that lot are Seacoast’s U17 girls, who are 2-0-0 after a one-sided tussle with the New Hampshire Phantoms earlier this year. Those girls are battle-tested and could take the division title with ease – two of Seacoast’s U17’s (Elise Amioka and Krista Johnstone) gained experience in last year’s USL Super-20 North American Finals.
