Thursday, September 25, 2008
TAMPA – Following a very competitive USL Super Y-League regular season, only two of the 264 girls teams in the league have completed perfect seasons – the (9-0-0) CASL RailHawks U13 girls and the (8-0-0) Long Island Rough Riders U15 girls. The final piece of a three part series, here is an in-depth look at two flawless teams…
CASL RailHawks U13 Girls The CASL RailHawks U13 girls allow CASL the right to call themselves the only organization in the Super Y-League with both a perfect girls and boys (CASL RailHawks U13 boys went 10-0-0) side. This unblemished side ended the regular season with a record of 9-0-0. Their closest match of the season came on Sunday, June 29 against the Atlanta Fire. That game ended 1-0 in favor of the RailHawks and doubled as the Fire’s only loss on the season.
CASL’s offense netted 53 goals in nine matches and allowed on average, just 0.33 goals per match. At the North American Finals CASL will face Coastal WFC on Friday, November 21, the West Michigan Fire Juniors on Saturday, November 22 and Schulz Academy on Sunday, November 23.
Long Island Rough Riders U15 Girls The second perfect female side in the Super Y-League is the Long Island Rough Riders’ U15 team. This side ended the regular season with a record of 8-0-0, scoring 22 times and allowing only six. They are one of three teams headed to the North American Finals from this division. The other two are Quickstrike FC and the Reading Rage, who Long Island has yet to face this season.
Against the New York Rough Riders, who were part of the 2006 U13 North American Finals, this Long Island side won a tight 1-0 match that kicked off the season on Wednesday, April 30. In Long Island’s second match of the season, TSF Academy played within a goal of Long Island before falling 2-1 on their own turf. Only one other match on the season was decided by a single goal – another 2-1 win over the Washington Freedom on Sunday, July 20.
