READING, PA – Rage SC, led by their U17 boys, who qualified for the Super Y-League North American Finals in 2007, are sending four teams to this season’s league finals. As a U16 team Rage SC compiled a 9-1-3 record in a tough Mid Atlantic Division before bowing out after the group-play stage of the 2007 finals competition after an average, 1-1-1 showing. This season that same side championed the Mid Atlantic Division with a record of 11-1-0. In this year’s finals, which are set to begin on Friday, November 21, they are looking to take that next step and join the semifinal stage of the competition. Also looking to advance to the knockout phase are the club’s U13 boys, U15 girls and U17 girls.
Rage SC U17 girls The U17 boys are not the only Rage team with North American Finals experience. In fact, the club’s U17 girls’ team was a finalist in the U15 North American Finals in 2006. That season this team put together a 9-1-0 season while scoring over four goals per game. That prolific offense slowed only slightly against the stringent competition during the league finals, but the club’s defense prevailed, sending the side into a semifinal showdown with Atlanta Fire United. After netting two goals, Reading’s defense continued their strong showing and held on for a two-goal win to qualify for the championship match. However, facing Real So Cal for the second time in four days proved too much for the Pennsylvanians, and the side fell one win short of a North American Championship.
In 2007, the Rage seemingly took a season off. They finished seventh in the division with a record of 4-6-1. But with either the return of several players from that U15 team’s core: Stephanie Barnett, Jackie Buss, Danielle Finnerty, Katelyn Miller, Jenna Riegel, Taylor Seitzinger and Crystal Zerbe), the Rage are in good position to bypass their group stage opponents: MPS Cape Cod, the Northern Virginia Majestics and the Plantation Eagles.
From the Club “The Rage SC U17 girls are making their second trip to the Super Y-League North American Finals in the last three seasons. In 2006 the Rage had an impressive showing making to the championship game and leading at half 1-0. The Rage eventually lost the final 2-1 finishing second. The team returns only half of the team from that season but is looking primed to repeat their success of two years ago. This season the Rage finished with a 7-2 record.”
Rage SC U15 girls – From the Club “The road to Tampa for the Rage SC U15 girls began on June 15th as the U15 Rage girls boarded a chartered bus in Easton, Pennsylvania. Their destination was the Maryland SoccerPlex where the Rage would face the Washington Freedom and take in a USL W-League match later that evening. The season began with high expectations from players and parents. The team, on paper and early in training, looked like it could make a run at one of the twelve coveted spots in the 2008 North American Finals.
Made up of twelve girls with either U.S. Youth, state, regional or USL Super Y-League ODP experience, Reading needed to simply step on the field eleven times over the next few months and play their style of soccer. But as they boarded the bus home from their match with the Freedom, they did so with their first defeat, a 2-0 decision.
Coach Mike Composto challenged the girls to decide what their summer goal was going to be, and bring that goal to him at their next training session collectively. At that next training session the girls declared their goal was to be still playing Super Y-League soccer in November. Accordingly, the girls ran off six wins in a row, which featured a decisive 5-1 win over the one seed in the Mid Atlantic Division, Quickstrike SC. Stumbling one more time and picking up a second loss of the season on July 26th, the girls again rebounded and closed out the last two matches with a pair of 3-1 wins to fulfill their season long goal.
Hopes are again high for the Rage girls, but this time they fully understand how good they need to play, and how outstanding the competition will be as they continue on the road to Tampa.”
Rage SC U13 boys Rage SC’s U13 boys landed in the 10th Annual North American Finals by completing a 9-3-2 season and winning the Group C Mid Atlantic title. In their best performance of the season, the Rage handed Quickstrike SC, the eventual Mid Atlantic Group A Champion, one of only two losses on the season via a 2-1 decision. The Rage will face off against the Chicago Magic, Ironbound SC and the CASL RailHawks in Group C of the 16-team tournament.
From the Club “Rage SC will be bringing a squad of 15 boys to the U13 Super Y-League North American Finals. Most of the boys play for Rage SC (formerly known as the Berks Soccer Academy) throughout the fall and spring in the Delco League, but several boys have joined from the Perusia soccer club for the Super Y-League program. The team qualified for the Super Y-League Finals by winning their group in the Mid Atlantic Region. Rage SC is closely linked with the Reading Rage Premier Development League team, who were the Eastern Conference Champions this year.”
