SUNRISE, FLORIDA – Sunrise SC, a second-year Super Y-League Southeast Division club announced today, that 18 Sunrise SC players have been selected for the 2008-09 Super-Y League ODP National Camps being held on consecutive weekends beginning on Thursday, February 19, in Tampa, Florida. Evaluated throughout the Super Y-League regular season by various team and league scouts, SYL ODP selections represent the top two percent of players in the top youth soccer league spanning the United States and Canada.

“Having 18 players selected to participate in front of national coaches at the SYL ODP camp is a testament to the hard work and skill level that these players have achieved,” said Sunrise Director of Coaching, Gus Camacho. “We have always said that Sunrise has the best trainers in South Florida, and the success of our players is proof that the hard work is paying off.”

Sunrise SC players selected include: Dara Spital, Haleigh Stremanos, Lauriell Young, Melisa Camacho, Kaitlyn Manning, Jennifer Martin, Sarah Motta, Kelley Struyf, Jeanelle Zuluaga, Ismael Longo, Mickeal Adetu, Kejoun Benjamin and Gabrial Lisboa.

Sunrise SC players selected as alternates, who will earn invitations to attend the camps if the players selected ahead of them decline include: Jessica Hoyt, Soraya Martinez, Rebecca Rogers, Jason Soroka and Stephan Hohn.

Aside from their players earning indivual accolades, Sunrise SC scored exceptionally well in the Super Y-League First 11 Rankings for the 2008 regular season, which was released earlier this week. After scoring a 35.5 and finishing 51st in last season’s SYL First 11 Rankings, Sunrise SC has risen to 17th this season after scoring a 61.4. The biggest factor in the club’s rise in the standings was their boys, who scored a 45.6 in 2007 with a record of 27-28-10. This season the club’s boys fashioned a 31-19-6 record to move into 15th place after the regular season.

“I am very proud of our clubs boys for raising their level of play over the course of a year to become one of the premier clubs in the Super Y-League this season,” said Sunrise SC’s Super Y-League Coordinator, Louis Stremanos. “For a small club in South Florida, founded by myself and Gus Camacho a few years ago, being named one of the top 20 clubs in a formidable, bi-national league is a welcomed surprise. I have to credit our club’s boys and girls for their commitment to the game.”

Last season, Sunrise was the only club in North America to send more than one player to England to train at West Ham United with the Super-Y League Select Team. Those players were Fabian Bastidas and Giovanni Freitas. Sunrise also matched last years’ success in sending three teams to the 2008 North American Finals.
