BACOLET, TOBAGO – Former Chicago Fire Premier star, Peri Marosevic, who netted four goals and an assist in 11 games with the USL Premier Development League club, needed only six minutes this past Saturday to give the United States a 1-0 lead over Jamaica in their first match of the 2009 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship being played in Bacolet, Tobago.

A second USL alumnus, Dilly Duka, who played in the Super Y-League with U17 Parsippany SC during the 2007 campaign and with Red Bull New York at the 2008 Super-20 League North American Finals, added a second goal for the U.S. in the 79th minute. The match ended 3-0 in favor of the Americans following a Billy Schuler goal in the 84th minute.

The US U20’s starting lineup also contained Bryan Arguez, a member of USL Super Y-League club Kendall SC’s U17 and Super-20 League team in 2006. Arguez was an important member of the Kendall SC side who won the inaugural Super-20 League North American Finals.

A fourth member of the US squad’s starting lineup played the 2008 summer season with the Des Moines Menace. Danny Cruz, a forward, tallied three goals and two assists in the PDL’s Heartland Division while Tony Taylor, who starred with the Central Florida Kraze during the 2007 season, scored 10 goals and five assists in just 590 minutes of action in the PDL’s Southeast Division.

Anthony Wallace, who was part of the 2006 U17 Super Y-League North American Championship side H.C. United also started for the U.S. U20’s.

Backing up Brian Perk in goal was former USL Super Y-League Chicago Magic goalkeeper, Josh Lambo.

With roughly the same lineup, the U.S. U20’s drew Honduras 0-0 late Sunday evening. Their next match is tonight, Tuesday, March 10 against El Salvador. That match is scheduled to kick off at 7PM (6 PM ET).

The Canadian U20 National Team fell in their opener, 1-0 to home standing Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday, March 7 before rebounding to eliminate Mexico with a 2-0 win on Monday, March 9. The Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s Randy Edwini-Bonsu netted two goals in the match’s final 15 minutes to give the Canadians a chance of reaching the semifinals. They play Costa Rica on Wednesday, March 11. Edwini-Bonsu was the Whitecaps Residency’s leading goals scorer in the PDL last season. He netted nine goals and added two assists in 15 regular season matches.

The Whitecaps also boast Canadian U20’s Julien Latendresse-Lévesque, a goalkeeper who signed with the club on September 10, 2008 and Philippe Davies, who played 13 matches for the PDL side in 2008. During that time Davies scored three goals and adding three assists. Forward Marcus Haber recently signed with the Whitecaps while Ethan Gage split the 2008 season between the Whitecaps PDL and USL First Division side. Gage appeared in six matches with the First Division side and played another 16 times for the PDL team, registering two goals and an assist.
