Super-20 Qualification Details
Chicago, Parsippany Eye S20 Finals

USL Press Release

Friday, June 05, 2009

ROCKFORD, IL – United Soccer Leagues announced today the allocations of qualifying positions for the fourth annual Super-20 North American Finals being held Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, August 2 at Sportscore Complexes in Rockford, IL.

A fitting environment considering the teams who starred in the final match of the 2008 Super-20 League season, the Chicago Fire and Toronto Lynx men, Rockford, IL is located in the league’s Midwest Division. Missing only the inaugural season’s finale due to a loss in the semifinals to Red Bull New York, the Chicago Fire has been featured in both of the last two season’s championship matches.

The Fire has again jumped out to an early lead in the Midwest Division standings. They defeated the Lynx 3-0 on Friday, May 29 and 4-0 on Saturday, May 30 to earn six points in the first weekend of their season.

“The level of competition coming out of our Mid Atlantic regions early this season has been impressive,” said USL’s Director of Super-20 and Super Y-League Operations, Erin McGauley. "I look forward to seeing the North American Finals play out in the most-competitive region of the Super-20 League the past two seasons."

Along similar lines, Parsippany SC, a Mid Atlantic side, has advanced to all three previous Super-20 League women’s championship games. In the league’s inaugural season, Parsippany fell to the Washington Freedom in penalties. The team advanced to the final the following year to face an upstart Quickstrike SC side coached by now W-League Head Coach Jesse Kolmel (Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues).

Parsippany won the 2007 affair, 1-0 over Quickstrike to claim their only Super-20 League Championship in three tries. Their third title game in as many seasons came last season in a penalty kick loss to Triangle FC.

The team currently sits in second place in the Mid Atlantic Division after one game, a 1-0 win over the New Jersey Rangers on Wednesday, June 3.
