VICTORIA, BC – The West Coast Capitals U14 girls qualified for USL’s Super Y-League North American Finals with a record of 7-1-4. Their only loss of the season was a 1-0 loss to Surrey WFC on Sunday, June 21. The club tasted a small amount of revenge on Saturday, July 11 when they tied Surrey 1-1 in their second match of the season. Surrey went on to win the Northwest’s U14 Division with a record of 9-0-3.

As a club, the West Coast Capitals landed three teams in the North American Finals, all in the girls division, and all finishing second to a Whitecaps Football Club affiliate (Surrey, Mountain or Coastal) in the U14-U16 division.

“The West Coast Capitals are comprised of nine soccer clubs up and down Vancouver Island, just off the Western edge of Canada,” said U14 West Coast Capitals Manager, Robyn Wildman. “Each girl, a top athlete in her own club, has a passion for the game and a strong work ethic. They came together in April this year under the direction of Coach Nigel Large to form a focused and hard-working team.”

The U14 girls had the best defence in the region, allowing just 0.50 goals per outing. The Northwest Division Champion, Surrey WFC allowed 0.58.

“With their ‘Impossible to beat, we are always in the game’ attitude, the girls fought hard tactically to come out on top in each match,” said Wildman. “They look forward to the challenges and adventures that their trip across North America, to the USL Super Y-League Finals, will offer.”
