TORONTO, ONTARIO – The Toronto Lynx soccer club received a massive boost amid preparations for the upcoming USL Super Y-League North American Finals when the league announced the Ontario-based club as the number one ranked youth academy in the Midwest Region.
“Being ranked above the powerful Chicago Fire and Magic, the Cleveland Internationals, West Michigan Fire and the Indiana Invaders programs, is a massive complement to what we are doing here in Toronto,” said Head Coach and Academy Director, Duncan Wilde.
“We are currently preparing three academy teams for participation in the upcoming 2009 North American Finals,” said Wilde. “This news gives everyone a major boost as we attempt to win our first Super Y-League Championship.”
Following the Lynx’s U20 men qualifying for their third successive Super-20 League North American Finals berth in July – the Junior Lynx U17 and U16 boys, together with the U17 Lady Lynx Juniors will head to Tampa, Florida for the North American Finals which begin on Friday, November 20 and continue through Tuesday, November 24.
"We are positioned in what is one of the very highest quality USL divisions on the continent," said Wilde. "We are all very excited and extremely proud of this achievement. This has certainly proven to be a standout year for the Toronto Lynx Juniors".
As an ongoing incentive for players within the Super Y-League, USL continues to promote the very best players across North America, recognizing the very highest quality with an Olympic Development Program Camp each year. Selected players are invited to attend a structured ODP camp hosted in Florida in the New Year which is staffed, presented and scouted by some of the top coaches, programs and universities from across North America.
This recognition for a Canadian is an outstanding addition to a player’s college/university resume. The Lynx are extremely proud to announce our 2009 recipients of an ODP invitation:
