TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the Girls Super Y-League (SYL) ODP Select Teams following the 2010 SYL ODP National Camps held this past weekend in Tampa, Florida. Girls named to the 2010 SYL ODP Select Teams are recommended to the U.S. National Team Staff Coaches for participation in U.S. National Team Programs.

New Jersey Rangers’ goalkeeper Illissa Blackshear was named to the ‘95/’96 SYL ODP Select Team.

“Coming to this camp has been the highlight of my year,” Blackshear said. “I was able to meet and play with/against the best players from around the country. The competition in the Super Y-League is not easy to play against. It is a very fast-paced game and there is no room for mistakes.

“I play soccer because it is my favorite sport in the world,” Blackshear added. “It takes a lot of dedication and motivation, but I think I have what it takes.”

Blackshear took part in the final match of the girls’ camp played yesterday morning. Each of the three age divisions (’93, ’94 and ‘95/’96) competed in one final match to determine the top 16 players in each age division. As the top goalkeeper in her respective age group, Blackshear has lofty aspirations.

“I see myself playing at either the University of Miami or the University of North Carolina,” she said. “I hope to achieve greatness. I want to be the best that I can be. The Super Y-League has given me the opportunity to play against [athletes] in other states and meet new friends. It also gave me a chance to build my skills.”
