Super-20 All-Tournament Team Announced
Chante Sandiford and Pablo "Martine" Nunez named tournament MVP's
August 14, 2006

TAMPA – United Soccer Leagues announced today the All-Tournament teams for the inaugural Super-20 Finals held last week in conjunction with the grand opening of Seacoast United’s new facilities in Epping, New Hampshire.

“I thought this was a very well organized and well run event,” said Red Bull New York's Director of Youth Soccer and Player Development, Giovanni Savarese. “The finale was a great game and could have easily gone to either team. I also felt it was an amazing event to see the two Major League Soccer teams youth sides meet for the first time in the tournament semi-finals."

Headlining the men’s All-Tournament team is tournament MVP Pablo “Martine” Nunez who compiled four goals and two assists during the five game tournament. Several easy decisions for the highly offensive select side were H.C. United’s Millien Pascel, West Kendall’s Garry Lewis, and Red Bull New York’s Michael Grella. Each lifted their respective teams throughout tournament play with game-breaking talent.

Red Bull New York cluttered the defensive side of the ball with three of the top six defenders in tournament play: John Pardini, Brian Barry-Austin, and John Borrajo. Pardini and Barry-Austin were unmatchable out the air in the back while the lightning quick Borrajo slowed down the pinnacle of U20 talent in North America – Martine.

The women’s side was highlighted by tournament MVP goalkeeper Chante Sandiford. Her highlight reel second half solidified the 2006 North American Championship for the Washington Freedom. U.S. National Team member Katie Watson, who scored the goal that sent the final into penalty kicks, was nominated several times by opposing coaching staffs for the All-Tournament Team.

The selections were based off the nominations of opposing coaches made every game throughout tournament play. Some player positions were altered slightly to fit the team format.
