SYL finals, USL AGM, beach soccer championship featured
“USL Breakaway Magazine,” the fast-paced 30-minute highlight and feature show chronicling United Soccer Leagues and its system of professional and elite-level amateur leagues, will present a special winter episode at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, January 26 on FOX Soccer. This special episode chronicles three major events taking place recently not far from USL’s Tampa, Florida headquarters – the 2011 Super Y-League North American Finals, the inaugural Major Beach Soccer National Championships, and the 2011 USL Annual General Meeting.
VisionPro Opens Portugal Academy
USL's Marcos to serve as president of Rio Maior FC
VisionPro Sports Institute (VSI) announced on Tuesday the launch of its new soccer academy in the town of Rio Maior in central Portugal. The project will also incorporate the formation of VSI Rio Maior FC, which will serve as an outlet for its young players to develop and play in Portugal’s competitive soccer structure. VSI recently partnered with the Brandon Flames to create a similar academy in Tampa, Fla., with teams set to compete in the USL PDL, W-League and Super-20 League in 2012 and USL PRO in 2013.
Mid-South Adds Two More
Corpus Christi Fuel & Halcones USA join new Super-20 division
USL announced today that the men’s Mid-South Super-20 League Division has continued expand for its inaugural 2012 season. Joining the eight previously announced clubs will be the Corpus Christi Fuel and Halcones USA. The Corpus Christi Fuel, based out of Corpus Christi, Texas, is operated by Patrick Esqueda.
Royals' Helmick Picked By Rapids
Developed in Northern Virginia Super Y, Super-20 programs
Northern Virginia Royals goalkeeper Joel Helmick has been selected by the Colorado Rapids with the 14th pick in the fourth round of the 2012 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft. A native of Springfield, Va., Helmick is a six-year veteran of the Royals program, having played for the USL PDL, Super-20 League, and Super Y-League squads over his Northern Virginia tenure. A product of the Northern Virginia FC Super Y-League development program, Helmick served primary goalkeeping duties on the Royals PDL side in 2008.
Lopez Called for Puerto Rico U20s
Real Maryland SYL standout looks to shine
With another round of tryouts on the horizon for the 2012 Real Maryland FC Super Y League Teams on January 23, 25 and 26, the Monarchs are proud to announce that Roque Lopez, who played for the U16 SYL Boys Team this past summer, has been invited to the Puerto Rico U20 Men’s National Team Invite-Only Tryouts.
Majestics Add Second Tryout
W-League and Super-20 Trials continue on January 14th
Following a successful initial turnout, the Northern Virginia Majestics will host an additional winter tryout session for the 2012 USL W-League and USL Super 20 Womens season. Tryouts will continue on Saturday, January 14th at Manassas Sports Soccer and Training indoor facility in Manassas, Virginia. Tryouts are open, however new participants must fill out registration prior to attending.
